CPR Class
Through the American Heart Association, GERMS offers a variety of courses where one may obtain certification and learn proper skills involving CPR, AED usage, and First Aid. Learning the skills and techniques needed to properly perform CPR and use an AED is important, as it can increase the patient’s chance of survival and be the difference between life and death. Over 375,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year, and as such, effective resuscitation of a patient prior to the arrival of an ambulance can significantly improve the individual’s chance of survival in an emergency. Therefore, it is highly useful to be able to successfully perform CPR in the event of an emergency.
GERMS currently offers one CPR course: the AHA Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) Program. This program, which takes approximately 4 hours, covers the basics of how to recognize an emergency, perform CPR, use an AED, and care for a choking individual.
